Here's what Judi told us after the Te Manawa show

"Kia Ora Jenny

I thought I was inspired and challenged and encouraged by your photographic exhibition which I had seen at Te Manawa, but then I attended THE show - Stepping Out! I was uplifted ! Truly inspired. Such simple yet extraordinary stories of incredible lives lived, and being lived more and more fully. That's what I found so inspiring being a woman in my mid fifties : the best is yet to come!!!

I was also so entertained!  I loved the songs and the dancing. Such ordinary women ???? No truly extraordinary ! I could sense that in the photographs but this show filled them out in an explosion of creativity- sometimes gentle, sometimes shocking, sometimes hilarious, sometimes deeply moving ... I experienced so many emotions through the show and loved how  each " character'' was able to develop in a mere 6 minutes yet together they seemed to emphasise, contrast and compliment each other to build a montage of  love and  wisdom,  lessons learned, experiences fulfilled, dreams for the future,  the importance of family and friends, and of making the most of this " teenage hood!!!!" of the later years.

Thanks Jenny for your talent and courage in creating the exhibition and the show! My wish would be that it was on tour! I would encourage all my friends- male and female to go, and my children and their friends. You ( and your amazing women friends)  have filled me hope and excitement for my own "coming towards 60!"

As an art piece ( "The essence of all beautiful art, all great art, is gratitude." (Friedrich Nietzsche )), you have been most successful as you have made me extremely grateful!

"Morena Jenny – you will be pleased to know that at the Art Society meeting yesterday afternoon your performance at the Globe received a glowing report with a hearty endorsement from the attendees. They thought that the combination of serious and light hearted, hearing the actual women telling their personal stories, added an extra dimension to the photographs that they hadn’t come across before. Well done you!!!

20 March 2015 at Pataka Museum + Art

On Friday 20 March 2015 we staged the inaugural performance of Stepping Out @ 60. It was everything I imagined it to be and more. Eleven of the 60 women in 'Visible 60 Women at 60' book and exhibition, stepped out in person into the spotlight, dressed as they were in their photograph and in 6 minutes, delighted the audience with their story. The audience was with us from the start. They laughed and cried and ooh'ed and aah'ed and I'm sure the tissues dished out by our fabulous MCs Jac Lynch and Margaret Tolland were well used.

The amazing women in the show were Irene Murphy, Jan Suckling, Sandra McCallum, Marie Gudsell, Valerie Smith, Jennifer Holdaway, Mandy Preston, Julia Bracegirdle, Meera Isaac, Ros Rice. I was in it too:)

The performing arts venue at Pataka Art Gallery was transformed into a visual feast of flowers and lamps. The fabulous crew were Maurice Priestley, soundman and accompanist for Irene Murphy, Rosie O'Connor (Stage Manager) and Livi Edwards, the silent glue that held the whole thing together. Acacia O'Connor and Jillian O'Connor  kept the guests fed and watered while we waited nervously back-stage. The ‘ushers’ from the SPACE NZ Trust did a fine job.

Jennifer Lal worked tirelessly all day setting up the lighting system and Stefan Wolf filmed the whole thing. Those videos will be available soon.

Proceeds from this show went to the Space NZ Trust, supporting first time parents and their babies through the first year of their child’s developmental journey.
